COVID-19 Information

We understand that the current COVID-19 situation is causing concern regarding travel and events creating unprecedented challenges for us all. During of all this, however, we are still there for you, our customers. We are committed to providing timely information as the industry navigates this uncertain time and starts to prepare for Natural Products Expo East. The show is set to occur September 23-26, 2020 in our new location of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Your health and safety is our top priority, and our goal is to deliver the top-notch education, new product innovation and networking opportunities that you have come to expect and value from Natural Products Expo.

We know that Expo East—and all events—will be different in 2020, but we are hopeful that we will be able to confidently host our East Coast show in Philadelphia come September, with all the precautions needed to keep the community safe while putting on a successful and productive event. We are working on elevated safety plans and new additions and enhancements that will transform the Expo East experience for retailers, exhibiting brands and others.

Our promise to you is that we will continue to track this situation and follow all guidance from Philadelphia health authorities, the CDC and WHO, and we will provide regular and timely updates to help the community best prepare for Expo East.

The below information is subject to change as we continue to track this situation and receive guidance from state and local health authorities, the CDC and WHO, and we will provide regular and timely updates to help the community best prepare for Natural Products Expo East (NPEE).

Expo East is set to occur September 23-26, 2020. Although we do not anticipate it at this time, if the current COVID-19 crisis results in the need to postpone or cancel the show, all registered attendees will be notified via email and refunds will be provided for all paid badges, education upgrades, trainings and tours that were associated with the official registration for the Expo East 2020 event.

Yes. Although these networking events are favorites to our community, we unfortunately need to limit the number of gatherings in Philadelphia. Specifics on what is cancelled:

  • Diversity in Naturals 
  • Exhibitor Reception
  • Herb Walk Tour 
  • Thursday Evening Concert 
  • Friday Community Benefit Concert

All cleaning practices have been thoroughly enhanced to ensure we are exceeding standards for disinfecting and hygiene with an increased focus on key touchpoints including high-traffic areas, handles and rails, restrooms, food and beverage areas, information desks and conference and meeting rooms.


  • NPEE will be deploying electrostatic disinfection systems to sanitize the building on a regular basis.
  • All high contact surfaces will be disinfected continuously throughout the day.
  • Hand sanitizer and hand washing stations will be conveniently placed throughout the facility.
  • All chemicals are regularly reviewed and renewed to ensure they are of highest quality in fighting against viruses while maintaining a HACCP compliant food safe environment.
  • The collection and removal of waste receptacles and attendants will be increased and continuously disinfected throughout the show. 
  • The show floor aisle carpet will be removed to maintain efficient aisle cleaning throughout the day. Carpet within the individual booths will be optional and to the discretion of the exhibiting company. 
  • Exhibitor booth cleaning services will be available in the Exhibitor Service Kit that will include top to bottom sanitization of booths. 
  • Exhibitors will adhere to a new set of sampling and distribution regulations which will be enforced by show management and Philadelphia Environmental Health Agents.  

NPEE will apply crowd density standards, in accordance with local and authorities’ guidance, to control the density of the show floor and community gathering spaces and allow for appropriate physical distancing.


  • One-way directional arrows will be put in place to alleviate aisle traffic on the show floor.  
  • Ambassadors will be deployed throughout the event to monitor flow of traffic and mitigate key density points to support social distancing. 
  • Chairs will be distanced in conference sessions to reduce room capacity for all rooms.
  • Through new technology measures, NPEE will minimize contact and lines during the onsite registration and badge pick-up process. 
  • All aspects of the event, including floor plans and aisle widths, room capacities, service providers and their practices, conference scheduling and special events and receptions will be reviewed to ensure that we are providing the highest level of safety and comfort for our community. 
  • Food and beverage services will be modified to minimize contact and restrict any self-servicing. 
  • NPEE will continue to implement and enforce the registration qualification process to maximize interactions with the highest quality of attendees while maintaining crowd density standards.  

Personal Protective Measures:

  • Attendees and exhibitors are required to wear masks. As we continue to monitor the current health crisis, this requirement may change. All NPEE team members and vendors will be required to wear masks. Masks will be available for those who do not have their own.
  • All NPEE team members will receive infection prevention and control training.
  • There will be an increased number of First Aid stations and first responders throughout the event. These efforts will continue to be in coordination with local authorities and medical personnel. 
  • Contact-free Registration 
    • All registration counters will be equipped with plexiglass shields.
    • NPEE will be working with our registration provider (Compusystems) to ensure registration does not require direct contact with an NPEE representative.

The City of Philadelphia Public Health Department and the Natural Products teams have worked together in a strategic, proactive approach to identify any potential risks regarding food preparation and open sampling. These regulations and expectations will be featured in the Exhibitor Services Kit and enforced onsite through Public Health Department agents. It is the responsibility of all of us to deliver the healthiest and safest event for everyone.


If an exhibitor is conducting open sampling in their booth, they are required to perform the following to avoid the potential of food contamination in avoidance of any food poisoning.

  • All exhibitors must have a Hand Washing Kit in their booth. 
  • Sneeze guards and/or plastic food coverings are required to protect open food products. 
  • Utensils or gloves must be used when handling food or beverage.
